Boost for leaders Mellor

MELLOR opened up a four-point gap at the top of the Lancashire and Cheshire AFL Premiership with a 4-1 home win over Moston Brook.

The visitors lost their discipline after early goals in the first 10 minutes from Barry Dalby and Mike Sharpe put Mellor in control.

Another boost for Mellor came with the defeat of Old Trafford who went down 3-1 at Old Ashtonians, giving the visitors some relief as they look to move away from a congested relegation zone.

Whalley Range continue to make steady progress and they were always in control of their local derby at South Manchester after scoring two quick goals from Louis Scott and Paul Farrell. Further strikes came from Dave Hamnett, Rob Kinsella and Jimmy Oldham.

Burnage Metro were also on fire in Division One as they beat basement club Aldermere 6-1 to ease their own relegation worries. Craig Worthington was the shooting star with four crackers and the six was completed by Loz McHugh and Chris McGreavey.

Old Trafford seconds were in good form in a 4-1 defeat of Cheadle Hulme Villa and, in a local derby, Old Stretfordians fourths were soundly beaten 4-1 at Aldermere.
