Skelmersdale 0 FC United 0

FC United's hopes of clinching a third consecutive promotion remained firmly on track after a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Unibond First Division leaders Skelmersdale.

This result keeps United in the play-off places and also maintained their hopes of automatic promotion to the Premier Division.

They remain eight points behind Skem with four matches in hand.

The Rebels deserved a point after an excellent defensive display with centre backs Dave Chadwick and Rob Nugent in top form.

Goalkeeper Sam Ashton also had to be on full alert, holding on to a Steven Akrigg free-kick in the 17th minute and saving Chris Almond's shot before the interval but there were few chances after that.

United are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Ossett Albion and their manager Karl Marginson will hope his side can make it six matches without defeat.

My oh my, Paul sounds like a bleating Bertie.

BTW who are Man U? No self respecting Manchester United fan would ever use that term.

For your info we are working hard to buy our own ground and it will belong to the fans when we get it not the banks or some rich tycoon in a foreign country.

Toys back in the pram Paul. Come on, don't be upset. Do you want to talk about it because bitterness is a very wasteful and exhausting emotion.

Our title hopes were dealt a hammer blow last night as a tired looking Reds side surrendered a first half lead to go down 3-1 away to promotion rivals Ossett Albion. Simon Carden bundled home the opener after 18 minutes but the hosts always looked like scoring and it was no surprise when Syers got them back onto level terms five minutes after the interval. He then headed Albion into the lead on 64 minutes and as a toothless United team pushed forward in search of an equalizer that never really looked like coming, Kelsey struck in injury time to seal the outcome. Our only real hope of promotion now is via the playoffs which is itself a tough one. Up the Reds.
