Big Sam exits Newcastle

FORMER Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has left Newcastle just three days ahead of their clash with United at Old Trafford.

The 53-year-old carried out his pre-match press conference for the United clash just hours before exiting St James' Park by mutual consent.

A statement from chairman Chris Mort released on the club website, www.nufc.co.uk, said: “(Club owner) Mike (Ashley) and I would like to place on record our thanks for Sam's efforts and wish him well for the future.

“A new manager has not yet been appointed at Newcastle United.

“We will make a further announcement on the managerial position when appropriate.”

Allardyce added: “I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle United, but I wish the club all the best for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

Big Sam spent seven-and-a-half years at Bolton, taking the club from the depths of the First Division to European qualification for the first time in their history.

But he quit the Reebok Stadium in April to replace Glenn Roeder as Newcastle's boss. His Wanderers replacement Sammy Lee lasted just six months, with Gary Megson moving in to take charge in late October.

It was the second time Newcastle had approached Allardyce, who turned down the chance to move to the North East following Sir Bobby Robson's departure in August 2004.

Can anyone out there help me with the number of times in recent seasons that United have faced struggling teams that have just installed a new or caretaker manager? It’s a real curse, because listless players suddenly pull something special out of the bag.

Unlucky for Sam!!

This is good for us with the pending visit of the Toon Army on Saturday.

I feel that the Toon have been seemingly hard done by in recent games, with useless referee decisions and unlucky goals against them etc. They were ready to explode soon and it could have been a very hard game for us.

I now think we will have a comfortable win on Saturday. Summit like 4 goals to 1! UNITED! UNITED!

THE WORST FANS IN FOOTBALL GET ANOTHER MANAGER SACKED,I WOULDNT GO NEAR THAT PLACE AS A PLAYER OR A MANAGER THE FANS ARE A JOKE, EVERY TEAM GOES ON ITS UPS AND DOWNS AND WHEN ITS NOT GOING WELL AND YOU ASK THE FANS TO GET BEHIND YOU THEY REALLY ARE A WASTE OF SPACE.

I feel sorry for Big Sam...

Players underperforming and fans over-expecting.

And he would be given time to build a squad they said...

Not much patience in the North-East i guess...

But hey, it`s in our favour. They will be without a manager when we meet them...

The poisoned chalice!!!

Total disaster. Bolton fans must be laughing their socks off and Newcastle fans really happy. Just to think there were people last year tipping him for the England job. Maybe there is a club in Alaska for him? A

Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Oh and thank the Lord he didn't come to us!

What a shame, Big Sam should go back to Bolton as they desperately need him - they were a match in heaven, without one another they are lost. Bolton should do everything in their power to get him back - otherwise it's Championship football next season.

I am a ManU fan. Newcastle had a top class manager and now will go through the process of employing another guy who will be sacked sooner or later.

The signing of problem player Joey Barton was a really bad mistake by Sam add that to some poor dealing in the transfer market.Sams style of play would also not have gone down well with the Newcastle fans.

Don't you just LOVE the fact that we played a 6-point part in getting this arrogant, graceless,Fergie wish-he-was his P45?

Karma,eh?

This "legend-in-his-own lunchtime" has never had a good word to say about us in all his time as a manager..dig,dig,insult,insult, whenever he got a chance.

I hope however, that the "Allardyce Myth" is now well and truly put to bed.

He just couldn't manage a "big" club.

Thank the Lord we got Sven.

shame on you newcastle, big sam proved he can be one of the best managers in prem. at bolton the gaffer got the time needed to get things to click. i'm sure mr barton has not helped his case. why has he been sacked? magpies ain't gonna get relegated and they probably won't win anything. so why not let things run to the seasons end. again shame on you newcastle your loss will be others gain (city fan).

The grass isn’t always as greener on the other side Sam, in your case it was a desert.

Mr Megson may be looking for a new number 2 in the summer give him a call.

Newcastle's loss will be another team's gain. Allardyce did get cash but bought poorly. It doesn't justify his treatment but then nothing new there - look at how they treated Sir Bobby Robson.

Wes Brown is probably the most relieved man in M/CR today

not bothered about allardyce..long ball merchant..one point however, why oh why do newcastle fans think they are the biggest and best fans/team in the world?? so they get 52,000 most weeks, however dont you remember when they used to get 20000!! most fickle fans in the world...hope they get relegated, employ shearer-lol!!!

Gotta say I've never had time for the guy. His post match analysis beggars belief sometimes. His teams only ever lose due to poor refereeing, they're always the better side and only ever concede goals because of defensive mistakes. Never any credit to the opposition. However I can't believe that the barcodes haven't at least given him to the end of the season.

I can't think of a manager and a set of fans more totally unsuited to each other than the SJP crowd and Big Sam. And that's before we get onto the chairman who sits behind the goal in his Alan Smith shirt with the "we deserve success cos we grow leeks and no-one can understand a word we say" brigade. Sam must have been mad to go there .. and then to buy Joey!

Sam egg on your face Pal, you left us in total disarray, you took loads of the back room staff from us. And for what? 5 and half months of misery and grief from a ground full of fans on your back all the time wanting everything straight away.

You are missed at the Reebok but we are getting over the worst and finding our feet again. I still wish you all the best but you need to think twice when you get offered these golden opputinotys in this case it was fools gold you went for
