Boy Blues in cup revenge

CITY gained a measure of revenge for Saturday's Premiership derby disappointment when they defeated United 3-1 to win the Manchester Senior Cup at Old Trafford.

City took the lead in the fifth minute when Daniel Sturridge struck from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Sean Evans.

United should have been level in the 65th minute, but City keeper Joe Hart pulled off a terrific point blank save from Reds striker Febian Brandy. Michael Barnes eventually put United on terms with 20 minutes to go after fine work by Aaron Burns, but City were back in front three minutes later when Marc Laird headed home a fine cross from Karl Moore. Paul Marshall sealed victory when he broke away to score City's third goal in injury time.

UNITED: Heaton, Eckersley, S Evans, Chester, Lea, Ngalula (Fagan 79), Mullan, Hewson, Burns (Galbraith 85), Marsh (Brandy 61), Barnes.

CITY: Hart, Logan, Williamson, D'Laryea, Mills, Laird, Obeng (Clayton 66),Sturridge, Grimes (Ball 80), Miller (Moore 46), Marshall.

I'd like to see one or two of these lads play at Spurs. I don't profess to know loads about them, but i do know that if there is anyone who can play wide left or at right back, or be a threat up front, then we should give them a run out.

GREAT!MAKES SATURDAYS RESULT OK THEN NOW DOESNT IT-MUEN-ARE U HAVING A LAUGH..REVENGE...I AM LOST FOR WORDS THAT YOU THINK A WIN IN THE SENIOR CUP WILL MAKE UP FOR LOSING IN THE WAY WE DID LAST SATURDAY...IF YOU'RE GONNA PRINT SOMETHING-WHY NOT HAVE A POLL AS TO SEE IF PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT PEARCE TO STAY!!

How good is Mark Laird? He was on the fringe of the 1st team in pre-season, but then got injured and didn't feature after that.

This must have really hurt the MUEN having to publish this article! congratulations to the lads by the way Jim Cassell should take all the credit most of this team came through the Academy,SADLY as soon as Pearce gets his hands on them they fade somewhat!!!!!! the day PEARCE,WIGLEY,JACKETT and WOAN are gone I will go out and celebrate it will be as good as winning a trophy,THEN PERHAPS OUR CLUB CAN REBUILD FIRST BY RECRUITING A MANAGER WITH BRAINS!!!!!!

No Steve, the lack of media interest in you winning a reserve cup is limited not by the paranoia you so obviously feel in regards to the attention your little club receives, but due to the fact that its a RESERVE CUP!!

Why dont you talk about the victory to your fellow Bitters instead of, yet again, seeking the attention of United fans.

It was Reserves against Academy, to be fair. The United reserves were rested for tonight's game against Chavski.

Still, a decent game and the best team won.

Those scummy rags are so obsessed with little ol ciddy yet again! There seems to be more Rags on here talking about a non event game. See thats the problem with all these sad red scum, they cant win anything or lose for that matter without rubbing other fans noses in it and that is why they are hated by most decent fans. They have no humilty. NO CLASS!!

Mr T.Knott says when the present management go, the feeling will be like winning a trophy .Surely even he cant remember what the feeling is like to win a trophy ,as it has been so long .Some advice will be for him to ask a United fan what the feeling is like!
