Bertos fulfils boyhood dream

ROCHDALE'S Kiwi flyer Leo Bertos fulfilled a boyhood dream when he ran on to a perfectly weighted Patrick McCourt pass to notch his fifth goal of the season to send his side on their way to a 2-1 win at Bury.

"The FA Cup is massive for all football fans all over the world and New Zealand is no different I can vividly remember staying up to watch the final on TV as a youngster," said Bertos.

"Patrick did brilliantly for my goal and all I had to do was score.

"It's fantastic on a personal level for me to score an FA Cup goal but it's even better to win."

As well as producing a terrific exhibition of wing play Bertos worked hard to nullify the threat of Bury's Harpal Singh and drew praise from manager Alan Buckley.

"Leo had a super game. Not only did he do well defensively but he was terrific on the ball.

"Not many people show Harpal a clean pair of heels but he certainly got a good few views of Leo's."

Chris Porter gave Bury a glimmer of hope with a 72nd minute header, but Dale held out despite a late Shakers onslaught.

Rochdale will now meet the winners of the Thurrock-Luton Town replay in the second round.
