Simpson's future in limbo

ANOTHER poor performance and a 2-1 defeat by Swansea left Dale player-boss Paul Simpson clinging to his job.

Having seen his side produce a gutless performance against their relegation-haunted visitors, subsiding to a 10th home defeat of a dreadfully disappointing season, Simpson admitted: "It's not a position I anticipated or wanted, but I have to get on with it because there is no point worrying about.

"I was told before the Bury game by way of a phone call and letter that things would be reviewed at the end of the season. I was told as long ago as the Wolves game that things were sorted and though I didn't want it to be, it was made public.

"There is no point asking me what my opinion is.

"When the time is right I'm sure a decision will be made one way or the other."

Gareth Griffiths headed Dale's 43rd minute goal.
