A THRILLING derby ended in controversy deep into time added on
with referee Dysdale's unbelivealbe decision to send off Rochdale's
Jon Boardman and award Bury a second spot kick, both of which were
converted by Andy Bishop.
Rochdale spent the whole of the second half throwing the kitchen
sink at their neighbours but could not overturn the defecit they
started it with.
Chris Dagnall's eighth goal of the season gave Dale a 12th minute
lead, cancelled out three minutes later by Shaker's man of the
match John Fitzgerald and added to from the spot when Dwain Mattis
was upended by Ernie Cooksey.
An already good game moved up another gear with the introduction of
Rochdale substitutes Sako and Modise and the pressure grew and grew
but somehow Bury hung on with Fitzgerald and Scott outstanding
until the penalty in the dying seconds.
