Goals at the end of each half gave Rochdale only their second league win since the end of September.

Very much on top in the first half, Dale had to wait until the 44th minute for their first goal when Michael Oliver rifled home from 30 yards.

In the second half, having lost leading scorer Paul Connor with an ankle injury, goalkeeper Neil Edwards had to be replaced immediately.

The 'keeper, who has been brilliant in Dale's cup run, was clearly struggling with a groin injury and could only watch as Dave Savage's cross drifted over him for Oxford's equaliser.

In a grandstand finish Dale midfielder Gavin Melaugh scored his first ever goal to restore his team's lead and with virtually the last action of the game replacement keeper Matt Gilks made a brilliant save to ensure the victory.
