ROCHDALE'S young wing back Matt Doughty is a firm favourite with the Spotland faithful but is on the receiving end of a lot of the dressing room banter behind the scenes.

In one of the pages in the club's matchday magazine individual players are featured and have to answer a series of set questions.

Two of the questions surround popular television programmes and ask which player would be evicted from the Big Brother house first and which fellow player would you not use on the phone-a-friend part of `Millionaire'?

So far this season Doughty has been nominated in virtually every case.

'Not quiz show material'

Wayne Evans, a fiercely patriotic Welshman described him as "an annoying young English gentleman who has some very annoying habits" and even the normally laid back Richard Jobson said: "in terms of having to ask quiz questions I can't see Matt doing too well.

"A good footballer but not the sort of person to appear on a quiz show. I am sure that the Scousers just grunt to each other in the car each day."

What upsets Doughty the most is the constant reference to him as a 'Scouser'.

"I am from Warrington which is 20 miles away from Liverpool. I travel in every day with the Scousers but I am definitely not one of them!

"To make it worse the lads from Liverpool actually call me 'plastic' which is great coming from a `plastic Irishman' Lee McEvilly, who had never been out of Liverpool before getting his international caps for Northern Ireland."

Doughty's bubbly personality is also called into question by his teammates but he is unrepentant.

"I think that most of it is down to jealousy. They are obviously envious of my boyish good looks and my excellent dress sense.

"You should see some of the things that one or two of them wear!"

On a serious note Doughty has become a fixture in the side with all-action performances on the left flank where he lives up to his nickname of `Buzz.'
