Rochdale 3 Bury 0

New boss John Coleman breathed life into Rochdale’s League One survival hopes by orchestrating an impressive victory over arch rivals Bury.

Coleman, who took charge at Spotland this week, had his troops fired up for the clash and the Shakers were caught cold as the hosts tore into them from the off.

Rochdale were close to scoring in the first minute when skipper Gary Jones forced a good save out of Cameron Belford.

The Bury stopper pulled off another fine stop to keep out Jones’ 15th minute header, but on that occasion Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro was there to poke home the opener.

Rochdale’s second came four minutes before the break, a sweeping move started on the edge of his own area by Brian Barry-Murphy ended with Belford parrying Jason Kennedy’s shot into the path of Ashley Grimes, and he applied a close-range finish.

The result was wrapped up when Grimes met Adams’ near post delivery to crash the third into the roof of the net from close-range.

But for goalkeeper Belford, the margin of victory could have been wider – he pulled off fine saves to deny Andrew Tutte and pushed Kevin Long’s header onto the foot of the post.

What do you think? Have your say.

Great start Jon! Good to see Grimes and Adams bask in the team instead of the Blackpool rejects. I think Tutte is worth a starting place as well.

Like days of old. Dale were all over Bury like a rash - they simply couldn't deal with the Dale style of play. New signing Kevin Long was a colossus at the back, Ashley Grimes was hungry for every ball, and Nicky Adams was simply unbelievable, and a deserving winner of the Man of the Match award.

With Gary Jones playing a captain's role in the centre, and Jason Kennedy dictating the play, Dale were better in every department.

I don't know what John Coleman says to his players, but whatever it is, it works.

3 excellent, well deserved points. More of the same please !!
