Rochdale have sacked manager Steve Eyre and assistant Frankie Bunn.
Eyre, a former youth coach at Manchester City, took on his first managerial role at Spotland after Keith Hill's summer departure to Barnsley.
However, Dale have won just four matches this term and lie two points from safety inside the relegation zone.
Saturday's goalless draw with fellow strugglers Yeovil stretched the club's current poor run of form to a solitary win in 10 league matches.
Youth team manager Chris Beech has been placed in caretaker charge.
In a statement on Rochdale's website chairman Chris Dunphy said: "This has been a very difficult decision for my fellow directors and I because Steve and Frankie are really nice people and we have enjoyed working with them.
"Unfortunately we haven't got the results we had all hoped and worked for. I genuinely want to sincerely thank Steve and Frankie for their services to Rochdale Football Club."

Will the Ob now report truthfully on what has been served up over the last five months or continue to treat fans like fools?
What a ridiculous decision, sacking a manager building a brand new team not even half way through the season. Unbeleivable.
We pull a mediocre 2000 fans a game, anyone thinking we should be pushing for Division 1 play offs has some serious delusions of grandeur.
Results have been poor and its a result game but only 2,400 every home game isn't enough for Lg 1. Expectations are in reality too high but I stopped going when in the promotion season they put up the prices for the Darlington game after going for alot of the season it was taking the ...
Its a fight for survival, mediocre players who need to show a bit more of themselves unless they want to play in Lg 2 next year.
Keep the faith, Beachy good choice with jones watch the DALE rise up the league now
True Blue Les
from Torquay UP THE DALE
Anyone not involved with GMR knew this had to happen. Real shame it didn't work but decision had to be made at a crucial time.
Absolutely crazy decision. beggars belief, Now some one has to start all over again. pretty much cements our position in Division 2 next season.
All because the plastic fans who cant even be bothered turning up to spotland, wage a forum fuss.
blame the board .... steve eyre should have never been given the job the board should have gone for a experienced manager instead of trying to get a manager on the cheap....hope they go and do that now..... good luck steve eyre & frankie bunn sorry it didnt work out ......merry xmas to you & all those loyal dale fans you deserve better.
They should win on Boxing Day against opponents who have lost seven and drawn one of the last eight games and have had an over promoted physio in charge for over 2 years.
well i suppose it had to come perhaps the main worry now is who do we get...............we have no money the crowds will take time to come back, i am just so suprised steve eyre could not see our main weekness in our defence.
So who do we get now........................my choice is dave flitcroft on his own with Tony ellis at his side
up the dale.
Time to change before the dale get dragged into division 2. Nice men but not a clue about tactics, organisation and motivation. Dale have some good player and should get up the league with the right manager.
I have a season ticket and have seen them go steadily get worse this season. Up the league and up the Dale!
It had to happen. Yeovil was the final straw.
well it had to happen didnt it.on one hand i feel sorry for steve and co losing there jobs at christmas time however , to say it came out of the blue ....well hello what did he expect after a couple of seasons weve just had. peoples expactations are a lot higher than of yester year, one win in ten games doesnt cut it any more at rochdale afc . with all steves contacts and experiece one would of thought of at least a top half position, you only had to read between the lines of what the fans were saying to see something was wrong so ill say it again sorry you lost your job steve and frank but it had to happen, whish you well for the future
A panic decision, This should have waited until January, at this stage 2 or 3 games win run can make a huge positional table change.
Wasnt he given a 3 year contract? i wonder how much this decision will cost.
I wish Dale all the best but I can't help thinking that once again those who hired the managerial team, that they've just thrown under the bus, are the same jokers who will hire their successors. Doesn't bode well does it?
