Rochdale

In a Rush for a striker

VISITORS Chester will be looking to make it a double over Dale at Spotland on Tuesday afternoon.

Ian Rush's side recorded a 1-0 win at the Saunders Honda Stadium last month in the LDV Vans Trophy, but it will be two very different-looking line-ups for this league clash.

Rush has added former Rochdale star David Bayliss, on loan with Luton team-mate Ian Hillier, but the big news from the City camp is the fitness of Michael Branch.

The ex-Everton striker was the star of the show in the Vans clash, coming off the bench to give Dale's defence plenty of problems.

But the 26-year-old limped off during Chester's defeat at Southend last Friday with a hamstring strain and Rush has been desperately looking to bolster his front line since.

Yeovil hit-man Phil Jevons and Bury's promising young forward Dave Nugent are reported to be on the shopping list, but as Observer Sport went to press the search had proved fruitless.

By Tuesday City will also have faced league leaders Scunthorpe and the fact they haven't managed more than one goal in any of their last seven matches does not bode well.
