LACKLUSTRE Rochdale slumped to a heavy defeat against their north west derby rivals.

Graham Barrow's side took a deserved lead on 26 minutes courtesy of a sweet turn and finish by midfielder Dwayne Mattis and killed off the game as a contest seven minutes into the second half when man of the match Danny Swailes headed home a Dave Flitcroft free kick.

With the home side disjointed and dispirited striker David Nugent added a third with a cool finish with a neat passing move orchestrated by substitute Terry Dunfield.
