Rochdale

Preview: Grimsby v Rochdale

Keith Hill
ROCHDALE Manager Keith Hill has virtually a full-strength squad to choose from as his side open the season at Grimsby.

There will be few surprises in the Dale backline. Rory McArdle and Nathan Stanton are at the heart of the defence with Simon Ramsden getting the nod over new arrival Scott Wiseman at right-back.

Tom Kennedy, who is still in negotiation over an improved contract at Spotland, will start at left-back while Sam Russell is first choice in goal ahead of former Stockport keeper James Spencer.

Skipper Gary Jones will make a club record 318th league appearance in centre midfield where Hill must decide whether he is partnered by Clark Keltie or ex-Grimsby man Ciaran Toner, both players having arrived at the club over the summer.

There is also a selection dilemma up front where Adam Le Fondre and Chris Dagnall look set to hold off the challenge from another new signing, Jon Shaw.

Key opponent: Nathan Jarman - young striker is looking to impress

Prediction: Grimsby 1 Rochdale 2 - Hill's men will be looking to continue last season's fine form
