The 23-year-old striker scored 16 goals in 29 starts for Dale last season and was one of the main reasons Keith Hill side got so close to the League Two play-offs.
Murray believes that the Spotland team spirit will be enough to clinch promotion this time around.
He said: "It's been nice to have the time off and to get a rest but it's great to be back and already on day one we have started where we left off last time.
"We are a bunch of lads who get on really well and we are all looking forward to starting playing together again.
Gutted
"Everyone was gutted when the season ended – just missing out on the play-offs as we did but hopefully we can put it right this year.
"Our strength once again will be that we have such a fantastic bond in the changing room, everyone gets on really well and there are no bad eggs in there. We are very much a team."
Rochdale will fly out to Cadiz on Sunday for a week-long training camp.
As well as fitness and training work they will play two games behind closed doors.
The first is against Gibraltar on Wednesday, July 11 (8pm) followed by a game against Lewes Town on Saturday, July 14 (5.30pm).
