Oldham Athletic 4 Plymouth Argyle 1

OLDHAM left stuttering league leaders Plymouth without an away win in three games to ease their relegation fears.

Both sides finished with 10 men with Argyle's Paul Wotton first to go followed by Oldham Jermaine Johnson, both for two bookable offences.

The Latics turned the game their way to hit the visitors with three goals in 11 first half minutes.

They opened the scoring after 34 minutes when Mark Bonner cleverly sent Jermaine Johnson racing away.

The Jamaican international ran 30 yards before rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into an empty net.

The second goal came in the 42nd minute when a long throw in from Will Haining caused all sorts of confusion and on loan Stoke defender Gareth Owen blasted home from six yards.

Rampant Oldham made in three in first half injury time when veteran winger David Eyres netted with a 30 yard free kick.

Plymouth pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 49th minute through Wotton after Owen had pulled back Marino Keith.

But Eyres set up Oldham's fourth to give Paul Murray his eighth goal of the season in the 67th minute.

Get in!! That is just the kind of result us Latics fans have been waiting for. A spirited show against the league leaders will hopefully boost moral and see us beat Wrexham midweek and help us all sleep better at night.

4-1, Way to go!!

Now I can relax knowing that OAFC are in Div.2 again next season.....can't I?

Good luck to "the new Gaffer" for 2004/05. Hopefully the Latics will build on their few losses of late, and put together a winning-streak to take them to Div.1.

IS ANYONE ELSE CONFUSED? HOW IS IT WE HAVE MANAGED TO BEAT THE LEAGUE LEADERS 4-1 ONE WEEK, LOSE TO THE BOTTOM CLUB WYCOMBE ANOTHER WEEK, AND MANAGE TO TAKE POINTS OFF ALL OF THE TOP THREE HOME AND AWAY AND STILL BE FIGHTING RELEGATION! TO SAY THE LEAST THE LAST FEW WEEKS WE HAVE BEEN DIRE, NONE MORE SO THAN THE 90MINS OF EMBARRASING FOOTBALL PRODUCED AGAINST PETERBOROUGH, BUT WHERE THIS 4-1 WIN ORIGINATED FROM IS ONE OF THE SEASONS BIGGEST MYSTERIES.
IT WAS HOWEVER VERY WELCOME AND VERY NEEDED. IN MOST CIRCUMSTANCES 50 POINTS WOULD BE LOOKING GOOD TO STAY UP, BUT EVERY TIME WE SEEM TO WIN SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE, AND GRIMSBY'S WIN LEAVES US STILL LOOKING OVER OUR SHOULDERS. COME ON LATICS, 3 POINTS ON TUESDAY WILL MAKE US ALL BREATH A BIT EASIER. SURELY WE CAN PICK UP AT LEAST 6 POINTS FROM OUR REMAINING HOME GAMES, BUT THEN AGAIN THIS IS THE LATICS AND TO BE HONEST, NOTHING IS EVER CERTAIN DOWN AT B.P! PLUS COME ON MUZZA AND POGS, SIGN UP AND LEAD US ON THE CHARGE FOR NEXT SEASON. YOUR TEAM NEEDS YOU!!! K.T.F
