The home side had the better of the chances but couldn't find a way past keeper Richard McKinney.
He was first tested after just four minutes when comfortably held a 30 yard free kick from veteran winger David Eyres.
New Zealand international striker Chris Killen was next try his luck in the 18th minute but this time his shot was superbly saved.
Defender Dean Holden charged forward four minutes later and this time McKinney used his legs to beat out a powerful effort.
It was the same in the second half as McKinney denied Calvin Zola in the 58th minute and when Eyres pounced on the loose ball his shot was blocked.
The best chance of the game fell to Killen with 10 minutes to go but the keepers heroics again denied new Latics' boss Brian Talbot a victory in his first game. Tweet
