IAIN Dowie has warned his in-form Oldham side to beware of a backlash at strugglers Tranmere tomorrow.

The Birkenhead outfit, who were hit for six at Plymouth last week, have now appointed the vastly experienced Brian Little as manager.

Dowie said: "They are coming back from a heavy defeat and an animal is always at its most dangerous when it is wounded."

Oldham went through to the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy on penalties against Hartlepool in midweek but Dowie insisted: "We were a long way from our best and will have to be much better than that."

Oldham rested half a side for the cup game and John Sheridan, Chris Killen, David Eyres, John Eyre and Danny Hall are all expected to return for the trip to Prenton Park.
