OLDHAM boss Iain Dowie is keeping fingers crossed that key players will win their fitness battle to face high-flying Port Vale tomorrow.

Paul Murray (knee), David Eyres (hamstring), Calvin Zola (groin) and John Eyre (knee) have been under treatment all week.

Dowie said: "There have been improvements but it still looks like it will go down to the wire."

But Oldham will definitely be boosted by the return of defender Dean Holden following a one-match ban.

Dowie said: "Port Vale have done brilliantly but we are not doing badly ourselves and a win could put us in the play-off places.

"We will be going all out to to produce exciting and entertaining football, as we always strive to do."
