OLDHAM are set to give an immediate debut to on-loan Newcastle United striker Calvin Zola.

The 6ft 3in, Congo-born 18-year-old, who is spending a month at Boundary Park, has impressed boss Iain Dowie in training throughout the week.

The Latics manager said: "I brought Calvin to the club to play and he has been outstanding.

"He is quick, has two good feet and, more importantly, knows where the goal is."

Zola is likely to partner Frenchman Mickael Antoine-Curier, another six-footer, who has scored three goals in six games.

The Latics will also have defender Danny Hall and midfielder Danny Boshell free after suspension.

But they will again be without veteran Darren Sheridan who sits out the second match of a three-match ban.

Promoted Hartlepool have made a decent start to their campaign. They are ninth in the table with an unbeaten home record they have yet to concede a goal at their Victoria Park stronghold.

Oldham won for the first time last Saturday against Rushden and Diamonds, another side new to Division Two.

Dowie added: "We have to be encouraged by that performance and we might have had even more goals.

"Nevertheless, it is going to be a tough trip, like all are away games will be, and we need to start picking up a few clean sheets."

KEY OPPONENT: Marco Gabbiadini - the veteran striker might be slower but, given the chance, still poses a threat.
