Preview: Oldham Athletic v Blackpool

OLDHAM are boosted by the return of influential skipper David Eyres for the visit of his former club Blackpool in a meeting of second division outsiders.

The veteran winger will play his first game of the campaign after recovering from ankle damage picked up in a pre-season friendly against Manchester City.

He said: "It stopped me running for a time but I have done some intensive training this week and feel fine."

Eyres, who spent four years with the Seasiders, added: "I always look forward to playing against them and I have managed to pop in a few goals in these fixtures.

"I will be in for some stick from their fans I usually am but I've got used to it over the years.

"They have recovered after a big defeat on the opening day and have a squad capable of making the play-offs so we know what to expect."

The Latics have no new injury worries but midfield ace John Sheridan could be rested after playing the full 90 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday.

Latics boss Iain Dowie said: "Steve McMahon's team, like my own, play the game the right way and the manner of the goals they have scored is testimony to that."
