Boss Iain Dowie was left with just five first team professionals after defender Will Haining (ankle) and Kiwi international striker Chris Killen (foot) were hurt in Saturday's home defeat by Brighton.
There is a new concern over David Eyres. His ankle damage worsened over the weekend and the veteran winger has been for scans to try to pinpoint the severity of the damage.
Dowie has turned to the Latics youngsters to bid for cup glory in a competition which saw them knock out Derby County and Premiership West Ham last season.
Danny Hall, 19, keeps his place along with Rob Walker, 17. Carlos Roca, 17, will be given his first senior start.
Two other 17-year-olds, Marc Tierney and Danny Forde, are in the squad.
