OLDHAM give a debut to teenage Polish international Tomasz Cywka
in tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie at home to League One
rivals Chesterfield.
The 18-year-old under-21 skipper has joined on a month's loan from
Premiership neighbours Wigan Athletic.
Cywka, who signed a three-year contract at the JJB Stadium in the
summer, has picked up more than 80 international caps and is the
youngest player to figure for the Polish under-21s.
Wigan boss Paul Jewell wants him to get experience at league level
and said: "He has all the attributes to become a very good player -
great touch, vision and pace."
The Latics will also include another loan signing, Birmingham's
19-year-old keeper Adam Legzdins, in their squad.
Boss John Sheridan will use the second-round contest to give a
start to midfielder Neil Wood and striker Chris Hall, who have been
out of the first-team picture.
Headache
He explained: "It will give them a chance to show me what they can
do and hopefully something to think about.
"They could give me a selection headache and I want players ready
for first-team football if they get the call."
Oldham are one of the form sides in League One and just one defeat
in 10 games has seen them climb to seventh in the table.
The Spireites are 10 places below them after a dip that has seen
them go four games without a win.
But they have dumped two Premiership sides - Manchester City and
West Ham - out of the Carling Cup and Sheridan added: "It is going
to be difficult, but it is a game we can win.
"Chesterfield are well organised and their players all know their
respective jobs and work hard for each other.
"It is not the biggest competition but we will be taking it very
seriously and I will be putting out a strong side.
"I want us to do well and the rewards are high if you can get to
the latter stages.
"Cup runs are always a good diversion from the league and they can
be great confidence boosters. It is also our best chance to get to
a final."
What is your prediction for the game? Have your say.
