The Latics were frustrated time and again by Peterborough's spoiling tactics as the packed their defence.
It wasn't pretty but the game plan worked.
Iain Dowie's side just didn't have the guile to open up the visitors, who no doubt were happy to settle for a stalemate.
The Latics had their chances though.
Chris Armstrong and Frenchman Julien Baudet both hesitated with the goal almost at their mercy six minutes before the break and the opportunity went begging.
Canadian international Carlo Corazzin also found space for a couple of efforts but failed to hit the target.
Oldham almost snatched it right at the death but Posh keeper Lee Harrison came to their rescue to turn away a close range shot from substitute Chris Killen.
