Eyres to exit?

FANS’ favourite David Eyres insists he does not want to leave Oldham Athletic despite having a request to go out on loan accepted.

Having been told he was being ‘rested’ early in November, Eyres has only played 10 minutes in the last 11 games – those coming late on against Chasetown in the FA Cup replay on November 16.

With his time as an unused substitute beginning to grate, Eyres asked Latics manager Ronnie Moore to go out on loan following last Saturday’s 2-1 win against Hartlepool United.

Moore then asked Eyres to discuss the matter further after Monday’s 1-0 victory at MK Dons before agreeing to the winger’s request.

Eyres said: "I know I’ve got a lot of support from the fans, so I’d like to think they understand I’m going out on loan just to get my match fitness up and play games.

"It’s demoralising sitting on the bench because I want to earn my money, and the only way to do that is by playing 90 minutes.

"If I can do that for a month elsewhere, hopefully the gaffer will have me back in his plans. I don’t want to leave the club, I just want to go out and play football."

Eyres had struggled to play early on in the season with Moore believing he was incapable of playing wide in his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Once injuries and poor results forced a change in style, Eyres was brought back on the left-hand side and saved Latics from an FA Cup calamity with the equaliser at Chasetown.

However, when Paul Edwards returned from injury and allowed Moore to play 3-4-3, the writing was on the wall for the ever popular 41-year-old.

Eyres’ name has been passed to other clubs, although he was quick to quash speculation linking him with a move to Scunthorpe United.

He said: "If it means going on loan to whoever, then so be it.

"Like every player, I’m unhappy when I’m not playing so hopefully I can get somewhere on loan and get the enjoyment back into it.

"I’m not happy with just sitting down and picking my wages up – I’ll go anywhere on loan just to get some first-team football. I’m not too proud either – I’ll go anywhere even if it means dropping down a division or two."

Now the tide has appeared to have turned and these quality players are actually getting their game together there is hope that this season could be a success afterall.

No doubt the Manager will take the glory and say it was his methods of favouritism that came good, in the meanwhile we are going to have to say goodbye to loyal players, Eyres, Griffin and probably Chris Killen who despite being told to show the clown that he was worth a place in the side, then scored about 12 goals in the reserves still gets left on the bench.

Bet your life that Swailes (another of the favourites) will be in the team on Saturday and yet another of the team will get the "Moore" treatment and left out.

Shame really because these players are the best all round quality players we have had at B.P. for many years.. and should get OAFC promotion, pity the Manager will get all the accolades.

I got my money on before the season started at good prices ...did you ?
