KEEPER Chris Day ensured Latics moved into the top six by taking home all three points from a scrappy match at Boundary Park.
With Latics having led for 15 minutes, he produced a fine save to deny James Keene a 75th minute equaliser at Boundary Park.
Having seen Stephen Foley clear Luke Beckett's first-half deflected header off the line, Oldham took the lead from the penalty spot on the hour.
Chris Killen and Marcus Browning's coming together appeared innocuous enough, but referee Brian Curson deemed it worthy of a spot-kick.
Skipper Andy Liddell duly obliged, sending Gareth Stewart the wrong way from the penalty spot for his fourth goal of the season.
Beckett also saw a second effort cleared off the line by Brian Stock, while Chris Killen volleyed over following Jay Gowling's poor back-header as Latics held on for victory.
