MK Dons 1 Oldham Athletic 1

Coca-Cola League One

RELEGATION-BATTLING Latics lost out on two precious points and left boss Ronnie Moore admitting: 'One lapse cost us.'

His side had gone in front with an early goal at the National Hockey Stadium, only to concede a late leveller.

Once again Luke Beckett was the scoring hero with his third goal in four games on loan from Sheffield United as the Latics got off to a flying start.

The 28-year-old ran onto a Mark Hughes pass and neatly drew the keeper before clamly clipping the ball into the goal after just five minutes.

Oldham then created a few more half-chances but the crucial second goal always eluded them.

Unbeaten in 10 previous outings, MK Dons stepped up the pressure after the break as they went hunting for the equaliser.

Oldham's defence, which had held firm, finally cracked with seven minutes to go.

The back four became caught up in an untidy scramble, allowing Gareth Edds to score from close range.

Moore said: 'It was a scrappy, horrible goal to give away. Until then we had done well and were in the driving seat.

'But we got deeper and deeper in the second half and a draw was probably a fair result.

'It was another game undefeated and we are now just one win away from our survival target of 50 points.'

Latics' mini-revival has seen them take eight points from the last 12 and they are unbeaten in four games.

Moore added: 'Luke took his goal superbly and he is getting us so many points.

'We are getting close to the finishing line and we have to keep digging out results like this.

'If we continue to keep putting balls into the box, Luke will get us more goals.'

The hosts were also happy to take a point as relieved boss Danny Wilson said: 'Oldham got off to a dream start, then went on to defend very well.

'We fell asleep for their goal and were never at the races in the first half.

'We had worked hard during the week to contain the threat of Luke Beckett, but he was always going to score when he got in that position.

'It was a bitty game and we huffed and puffed. To be honest, we were fortunate to go in only one goal down at half-time.

'Both sides looked nervous and neither wanted to get beaten, but Oldham must be very disappointed after hanging on for so long.'
