Manchester City duo Luca Scapuzzi, Andrea Mancini taking to Oldham life

Oldham Athletic boss Paul Dickov had high praise for on-loan Manchester City youngster Luca Scapuzzi following his first goal for the Latics on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old played a starring role as Athletic reached the area semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 3-1 win over Crewe Alexandra.

He created the first of Shefki Kuqi's brace before wrapping up victory 17 minutes from time with an exquisite curling effort.

Dickov said: “Luca has great ability; you don’t come from AC Milan and sign for Manchester City if you haven’t got that.

“He has that bit of something special that can turn games; for the first goal, he had a great shot and there was an unbelievable save before Shefki scored.

“Luca’s goal was top class but he's a top kid and a top player.”

Seven days after arriving from City, Scapuzzi and fellow loanee Andrea Mancini have quickly settled in at Boundary Park.

Scapuzzi has started against both Bury and Crewe, while Mancini has come off the bench in both games.

Mancini could have also scored on Tuesday, only to fire over from close range.

However, Dickov is more happy with how they have adapted to life.

“The most impressive thing is how they have endeared themselves to everyone,” he said.

"They love being here, we love having them here but first and foremost, it's their attitude not their footballing ability.

“They are a credit to themselves and to Manchester City.”

What do you think? Have your say.

delighted we're helping out a City legend, always speaks highly of the club, in fact gets very defensive - love him. The kids need this, remember Red Nose had all of his "golden generation" out on loand before they broke in to the rags 1st team. Personally i think a better grounding than this next gen torno thing we're in, which ok we've not had the best set of results ! Send them to the lower leagues, let them be part of it from bottom up.

Anything we can do to help Uwe as well please City !

Thanks to Man City for loaning these players. Paul Dickov is an ace manager. He is a real motivator and has obviously many contacts through his playing career and it just shows you how those that know him respect him for his outstanding attitude and dedication which he has shown so much since he became the manager of OLDHAM ATHLETIC. Carry on the good work Paul.
