Preview: Oldham Athletic v Wrexham

OLDHAM will be playing for high stakes when they take on Wrexham tonight in the LDV Trophy Northern Area final first leg.

Brian Talbot's side may be in a League One relegation dogfight, but their exploits in the Carling Cup and FA Cup has brought the cash rolling in.

If they go all the way to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in the LDV Vans Trophy - and they are now just two games away - they will smash through the '1m barrier.

It would be their third televised game of the season and would virtually wipe out their debts.

Skipper Dean Holden said: "We are just two games away from a major cup final and we will be going for it.

"We need to make home advantage count so all the pressure will be on Wrexham in the second leg.

"It won't be easy because they will want it just as much as we do and they will have the whole of Wales behind them!"

Holden added: "It is a fantastic opportunity and we will have to grab it with both hands for the club and the fans.

"Our supporters have been superb this season, sticking with us during some difficult times, and getting them to Cardiff would be a just reward."

Wrexham are currently in the bottom four but if they hadn't had 10 points deducted for going into administration, they would be above the Latics.

Oldham hope to be boosted by the return of powerful centre-back Will Haining, who will take a late fitness test on a groin strain.

Holden will also stiffen the defence with his first start in eight games.

He made his comeback after coming off the bench at Bournemouth on Saturday and has had no adverse reaction to ankle ligament damage.

Boss Brian Talbot said: "The emphasis will be on us and we need a positive result to give us a chance in the second leg."

seems like Talbot stayed with the lads who got him there. Unless he changes the team he may be staying with the lads who get him relegated.

Ah well Mr Talbot.... can't get a more positive result than that.

Talk about disgrace, still at least all you long suffering Latics fans can save some money now on the second leg and at least have some consolation from the fact that the only people going to Cardiff this year from OAFC was the the Chief Exec. and Mr Jarvis...

Can I ask why have we borrowed Kenny Cooper from that awful red team ?... then don't bother to play him yet again when we play injured and only half fit players ?... come on Mr Talbot admit it... you have no idea what you are doing anymore...! Yes disgrace.
