The Latics went in front after 12 minutes when teenager Neil Kilkenny, on loan from Birmingham, scored on his full league debut.
But the home side levelled in the 28th minute after top scorer Dean Windass headed home from close range.
Bradford were reduced to ten men in the 61st minute when Nicky Summerbee was shown a second yellow card after stamping on defender Adam Griffin.
Oldham took just two minutes to make the extra man count when Kevin Killen, who had hit the bar in the first half, grabbed his fourth goal in three games.
