OLDHAM boss Brian Talbot has handed a surprise call-up to teenage striker Matty Barlow for the tough trip to Luton.

The 19-year-old local lad has been in sparkling form for the reserve side in pre-season action, banging in eight goals in four games.

Barlow was given his senior debut in the final game of the last campaign when he went on as a sub at Notts County.

Matty Appleby, who missed the whole of last season with a hip injury which needed career-saving surgery, is also included in the squad.

Defender Mark Arber and frontman Rodney Jack will make their league debuts.

KEY OPPONENT: Stevie Howard - a big, bustling striker who finished top scorer last season with 16 goals.
