Martin Gray takes charge of Oldham Athletic as they entertain Charlton Athletic.

Dave Penney's tenure at Boundary Park came to an end this week following a season of struggle.

"It was a hell of a shock," Gray admitted. "We'd gone to Carlisle United on Wednesday to watch the reserves and speak to agents about players for next season.

"I'm in charge on Saturday and then next week we'll have a meeting with the directors about the future. The players are professionals, so as much as they had time and respect for the manager, they have to get on with their jobs."

The Addicks head to Boundary Park this weekend requiring victory to have a chance of automatic promotion from League One.

In contrast, Athletic are playing for pride after spending most of the season in the wrong half of the table.

Reuben Hazell and Deane Smalley are both set to return to Latics' starting line-up after missing last Saturday's defeat at Yeovil Town.
