OLDHAM guaranteed second division survival with only their 12th win of the season as they put months of uncertainty behind them thanks to a goal blast from John Eyre.

He grabbed his first in the 50th minute. Superb long ball from David Eyres saw Eyre burst into the box and although the Chesterfield keeper blocked his first shot the ball cannoned back off the player and rolled into an empty net.

But there was no element of luck about his second in the 81st minute.

This time he was put away by Paul Murray as he came up with a clean strike into the roof of the net.

Boundary Park's final game of the season attracted a ground of 8,177,t he third highest of the campaign. Tweet
