He rapped: "We keep throwing away chances and some of my players are not mentally tough enough.
"We should be beating teams like Orient at home but I didn't see the same lads come out for the second half.
"Some of the things we do on a football pitch are unbelievable and I just don't have the answer."
It may seem harsh, especially after the Latics have taken 12 points from 18, but their last three games have ended in draws.
And Sheridan said: "We had no leaders out there and didn't know how we were going to win the game.
"They just think they need to turn up and have a nice day, but that won't get us promotion or into the play-offs.
"I have players who can perform away from home but I don't know if they have the bottle to do it here."
Leveller
Veteran Andy Liddell put Oldham in front in the 33rd minute with his fifth penalty of the season after striker Darren Byfield had been pulled back in the box.
But struggling Orient levelled with 20 minutes to go when substitute Ryan Jarvis went down after keeper Greg Fleming, making his home league debut, raced out to save.
The Scotland Under-21 international kept out Jason Demetriou's spot-kick but defenders failed to clear the loose ball and the ex-Arsenal trainee cashed in on a second offering.
It was Fleming's second penalty save in as many games and he twice denied former Latics loanee Steve Park with superb stops as Orient turned on the pressure.
Sherian added: "I felt sorry for the lad and told the players they had let him down.
"He was world class and should have been a hero in a winning side the way he played."
Oldham now have two games in four games against rock- bottom Crewe and struggling Carlisle, and two victories would give them the seven-point target set by Sheridan in a pre-Christmas rallying call.
