VETERAN Andy Liddel scored his fifth penalty of the season to stretch Oldham's unbeaten run to six games.

The 35-year-old's spot-kick was well read by Orient keeper Glenn Morris, who guessed the right way, only to be beaten by sheer pace.

Liddell struck in the 33rd minute after Darren Byfield had been pulled back by the visitors' skipper Tamika Mkandawire.

It took his goal tally to eight for the season.

Orient also made the most of a penalty chance although it was only put away at the second attempt.

Latics' Scotland under-21 keeper Greg Fleming was adjudged to have a brought down Ryan Jarvis just three minutes after he came off the subs bench.

Fleming, making his home league debut, made his second penalty save in as many games, in the 70th minute from Jason Demetriou but Orient had the last laugh when Demetriou fired home the loose ball.

Striker Sam Parkin, who had a spell on loan at Boundary Park eight years ago when he was a Chelsea player, was struggling Orient's danger man.

He had a shot cleared off the line by Danny Whitaker in the 31st minute then was bravely denied by Fleming five minutes before the break.

The keeper also made a superb save to keep out a six-yard effort after 57 minutes.

Substitute Lewis Alessandra had a good chance to pinch victory for the Latics with just four minutes to go but he snatched at his shot and the ball rolled wide.
