JASON Jarrett's loan deal at Oldham has been extended until the end of the season.
The midfielder was originally signed on emergency loan from Preston earlier this week, and played in Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Carlisle at Boundary Park.
Now Latics boss John Sheridan has secured the services of the 28-year-old until the summer.
Jarrett, who started his career at home town club Bury and played in the Premier League for Wigan, joined Preston in June 2006.
Preston boss Alan Irvine's decision to allow the midfielder to stay at Boundary Park for the rest of the season is a major boost for Sheridan, a day after defender Neal Trotman moved to Deepdale.
