Ricketts wants promotion

EXPERIENCED: Michael Ricketts
OLDHAM Athletic's Michael Ricketts has only one aim for his new club - to score the goals that take John Sheridan's side into the Championship.

The 28-year-old former Bolton and England striker made the move to Boundary Park after being released by Preston North End at the end of last season and he's ready to prove himself all over again.

"I'm here for one reason only - to score plenty of goals," said Ricketts.

"I've not had the football I would have liked in recent seasons and that's certainly had an impact on my performances.

"But I feel I'm now as fit as ever and I'm highly motivated to make a success of my time at Oldham.

"I had offers from four Championship clubs to spend pre-season with them but I just felt Oldham had gone all out to secure my signature. They'd shown an interest from the end of last season."

Experience

And Ricketts feels his experience at the top of the game can help the youngsters at Oldham.

"I'm now 28 and believe I can add a lot of experience to the side alongside players like Mark Crossley and Sean Gregan," he added.

"I feel Oldham can get back into the Championship and we have the potential to be strong contenders this season."

Ricketts, who played for Sam Allardyce's Bolton before a £3.5m move to Middlesbrough and on to Leeds and Preston, has signed a three-year deal with the Latics.

He won a full England cap under Sven-Goran Eriksson when he appeared in the friendly against Holland in February 2002.

Riketts wants promotion and I want to marry Angelina Jolie. At least I've got a chance of success. Bring back Ronnie Moore!

Ricketts was a class only a few years ago and that's why Boro paid #3.5M for him. Promotion are the words we want to hear from Oldham players, not like City players who are happy avoiding relegation every year! Let's see who Sven can get on a free transfer and then Shanny will see how tough management is in League 1 (being a City fan it won't be long before he's watching League 1 anyway!!).
