FC United can finally look forward to their first Cup semi-final after a comfortable win in Yorkshire.

Karl Marginsonés side eased past Silsden with a 3-0 win in the quarter-finals of the Northwest Counties League Challenge Cup.

Three first half goals from Josh Howard, Simon Carden and Rory Patterson were enough to win the match in front of 1,564 fans at Keighleyés Cougar Park Rugby ground.

FC United face a two legged semi-final but could be coming home if they win through.

The Cup Final last year was played at their own Gigg Lane and this yearés venue is still to be decided.

Oh I know United were on the telly. It cant have been that they couldnt buy a ticket either. Cheap skates. Still it was 70,000. There were more Reading fans than FC managed to cobble together.

Silsden were never in it the job was done by half time. Second half was practically a practice match. Went on to the Bridge pub in Silsden after to watch the United reserves take on Reading. Shades of Exeter came to mind in another a rip off game. It only costs a fiver to watch the reserves at Ewen fields. 6000 empty seats a sign of things to come. Don't feed the greed.

This was only my third FC United game. I am pleasantly surprised by the standard of football being played at non league level. I think that Rory Patterson and Josh Howard could play at league division two level if not higher. I watched the highlights of Reading game when I got home and I must say I did not miss much. I will defiantly be going to watch the Curzon-Ashton game on Wednesday night in what could be a title decider.

Gordon Bennett of Chotlon (what a Blue with a Manc address), whatever name you call yourself, you still sound better than Norman Wisodom on Whizz. Last week you made us split our sides under the alias of Real Fan, the week before your were some Yank.

Just remember this is a Red site and any Blue coming on will be smelt a mile away.

For the record we drew against Reading and the supporters team beat Silsden
and you scraped thru against an unlucky Preston.

I thought we out played Silsden all over the park. You could see Silsden were trying there best, but the difference in class was obvious. I'm not sure but I think the score should have been 0-4 to FC United. At the end of the first half we had a goal disallowed for off side, but I would like to see the replay on that one. I thought it was on side and my first instincts seem to be confirmed my others who were a bit more vocal about it. Still on the scale of things it makes no difference. The other result in the League Challenge Cup quarter final was Congleton Town 3-2 Padiham with the Oldhan Town v. Flixton tie postponed. FC United will play Congleton in the semi final which will be over two legs, the first of which will see Congleton Town v. FC United and Salford City or Curzon v. Oldham Town or Flixton. Elsewhere FC United reserves beat Glossop North End reserves 2-1 in the Reserves Division Trophy second round. The other result in this competition was Ashton Town 2-4 Colne. This should set us up nicely for our biggest match this year against Curzon Ashton on Wednesday. They have been flying high in all competitions and I don't think they have lost a match since they played us. It should be a cracker. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

A recent signing from Maine Road, Jerome has excited supporters in the recent away games, but now looks to make his home debut. "I've been waiting for this game for weeks". Tonight's game against Curzon Ashton is undoubtedly shaping up to be a crucial game in the title run-in. Curzon are currently 8 points behind FC but have 2 games in hand, are still in the League Cup and won their 5th round FA Vase match at the weekend 5-0. As Margy concedes "They are looking like our closest title rivals. They are a very strong side on a great run they're in the kind of form that we showed in the first few months of the season". "They have two top strikers in fine form in Michael Norton and Steven Moore and have strengthened further with the addition of some lad called Joz Mitten".
