Rebels in control

GOAL twins Rory Patterson and Stuart Rudd struck to give FC United a 2-1 comeback win at Bacup Borough which keeps them on course for the NWCL first division title.

The Rebels seized on leaders Salford City's latest slip, a 2-2 draw at Maine Road, to move to within a point of them at the summit with six games in hand on their Moor Lane rivals.

But Karl Marginson's men did it the hard way, trailing to a Stuart Shepherd penalty after Rudd had failed from the spot before he and Patterson again showed off their goalscoring prowess in front of a crowd of 1,504.

Salford were pegged back by Road's Martin Turner and Paul Wadsworth after John Robinson and Kenny Tudor had put them two-up.

That leaves third-placed Curzon Ashton, who beat Trafford 2-0, as the biggest threat to FC's second successive title hopes.

Rorys goal was top draw. With about five opposition players around him he managed an overhead scissor kick that just looped over the keepers head. Rudd's also took his goal well even though I though it was going to be disallowed for some reason or other! The ref was the worst I've seen all season, but at the end of the day we got the 3 points so everything worked out ok in the end.

Next up, WARRINGTON TOWN FC v. FC UNITED. We have a midseason friendly this Tuesday 6th February 2007, at Cantilever Park, Common Lane, Latchford, Warrington, WA4 2RS. k.o. 7.30pm. Admission is free. DIRECTIONS. Few ways of doing this but heres a couple. Depart M6 at Junction 22 signposted Warrington (Central). At roundabout take first left onto Manchester Road signposted Warrington, Woolston. Continue foward on Manchester Road for approx 2 miles until you come to 2nd main set of traffic lights. Turn left onto A50 signposted Birmingham and M6 South, M56 and continue forward. At roundabout take first exit over bridge and continue forward for 0.8 miles. This will bring you onto a one way road. At the split of the road bear right onto the A50 Knutsford Road and continue forward entering the A5061. In 0.3 miles keep left onto Wash Lane and continue forward for 0.3 miles and the ground will appear on the right. Alternatively, from the M60 ring road take the M56 to Jct 9 and change for the M6 north to Jct 20. Exit the motorway at Jct 20 and take the A50 (Knutsford Road) for Warrington. Continue along the A50 for about 2 miles until you cross over the Ship Canal then take your first left onto Station Rd. Drive to the end of Station Road, about 700 yards, turning left onto Wash lane. Take an immediate second left onto Common lane and Cantilever Park is about 75 yards ahead. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

Poor old Free Red - nobody seems to want to talk to you these days! Funny old life isn't it - walking the dog to the park to watch the boys play, then home to fiddle around on the internet to leave sad messages nobody responds to! Maybe if you supported a bigger club you'd make more friends?

Had a good day enjoyed the banter with the Fc fans especially the one who had travelled up from Oxford originally from Sale who passionately told us what FC means to him. As for the game fair result Fc left winger impressed me but i was wondering what happened to the right full back who destroyed Bacup at Gigg Lane.

Colonel Mad Beswick, its not the size of the club that matters, its the quality.
Are you suggesting that we all support a MASSIVE club?
All these derogitory terms such as pub team, one man and his dog in the park etc make me laugh. If we are so insignificant why do so many poeple put so much time and effort into trying to discredit us?
Could it be jealousy?

Free Red. Fair play to you mate for your determination and tenacity at keeping the detractors in touch. I am a red who is extremely happy with the way they are going about the prem this year. However, i will not be seeing it in person as my conscience has made a decision that i am sticking with. I am having a great time supporting and watching FC and you know what, thats all that matters. Each to their own, my money, my choice. I cannot fathom the mentality of the losers who must spend a large proportion of their day throwing mud at FC on various message boards. How rubbish must their lives be? What an absolutley pointless pursuit. FC are no threat to Man United and the last time i looked around at my mates at the last FC game i attended, not one of them could have had their red credentials challenged by the mud slingers on here and elsewhere. I am proud of what FC stand for and buzz off the eclectic mix of people that make up the support. I would hazard a guess that a large percentage of that support was priced out of the Premier league several years ago. Who would be shallow and pathetic enough to begrudge these people the chance to have a great time chearing on the shirts on a Saturday. The people at FC had the guts to follow their conscience as did I. Fellow FC'ers, I salute you!.
And keep up the good work over at M16 as surprisingly to some (perhaps,) I still want them to win every game they play in....

Well said JP, carry on Free Red, glad Salford Red has STOPPED SHOUTING! For me the craic at FC is as much as the football; When I went Colne the funniest chant was the "Barm Cake Boys" one ("If you are a muffin fan surrender or you'll die") Pure Class!!!

JP, It is possible to support two clubs without paying a penny to glazer. If I was exiled darn sarf I would be supporting United away to Arsenal, Charlton, Chelsea, Fulham, Reading, Tottenham, Watford, West Ham etc. I don't pay glazer, I save with MUST and as you said, FC is no more a threat to United than any other club outside the premiership. In fact I would say that out of the 92 league clubs in this country and the entire non league pyramid, there are only four clubs with a realistic hope of ever becoming English champions again. It's been that way for years and nothing I have seen is going to change that. We all know that glazer will go it's just a case of when. Unlike the glazers, Manchester is immortal and we have all the time in the World, generations if necessary. Not one penny to glazer - ever.

Salford Red (arent they all) dont give up hope yet. Its three up I think and its a long way to go..I know Curzon look good for 1st or 2nd, but its a funny old game.

I would have preferred us, the Ammies and Maine Rd up but it aint gonna happen.

Get yourself up to Gigg Lane with all the other Salford Reds to see games like Curzon, Salford and Maine Road.

Oh and as for Barm Cakes its gotta be Muffin...The Mule.

Good day on Saturday and good fun in the little shelter. As one of the last to leave the ground and turn right throught the snicket, we had twenty odd kids waving hammers, batons in our faces. Was anyone else there and what was your take on it? First proper bother at FC and most definately instigated by the local urchins. Hope their sore heads make them think again before attacking people who just want to watch a game of football.

Phil, Lids, I didnt attend this, but look on Andy Mcintyre's pics for the game and on page 16 you see around 16 youth clinging to the outside of the perimiter fence. My guess is they are not United...do you recognise any and would the police like to see the picture.

What you describe should be passed to the authorities, as minor incidents have also occured at Newcastle (Staffs) and The Willows and maybe Padiham.

It seems the police seem more concerned in policing dads with kids, rather than the oh so obvious groups of youths.

The club if they havent already should take this up with the police in which ever town we go to.

I have created a "Free United fans" fund. All money raised will be used in my efforts to purchase FC United. After my successful takeover, I will disband FCUM and invite any true reds to come back to OT and celebrate the upcoming treble.

All members will receive formal notice of the meeting in due course. The General Meeting, as with all General Meetings of the Club, is an opportunity for members to put resolutions before the membership and to vote on resolutions proposed by both fellow members and the club Board, thereby ensuring that all members have a full say in the running of their club. If a member wishes to submit a resolution for consideration at the General Meeting, Rule 24 of the Club's Constitution provides that notice of that resolution must be given in writing to the Club no later than 28 days before the date of the meeting, therefore by no later than 19 February 2007. The only way you could do that Tommy is to spend the money on cloning yourself enough times till you and your clones (when they reach 18) form a membership majority and successfully vote for the club being disbanded. But in 18+ years time FC will be in the prem and the debt ridden glazer hulk will have sunk without trace, not even leaving bubbles. Forza FCUoM
