Rebels fixture pile-up

KARL Marginson is desperate to take FC United on a decent cup run - even if it means a fixture pile-up at the end of the season.

The Rebels travel to play Colne on Saturday (2pm) in the League Challenge Cup, and that means they will have gone four weeks without a league game when they return to Lancashire the following week to take on Bacup.

Bad weather forced postponement of the recent Curzon Ashton game and last weekend was left clear for possible involvement in the FA Vase.

All that inactivity has allowed title rivals Salford City to take over the top.

The Ammies slipped up at the weekend, losing at home to Glossop, which means FC are three points behind them with five games in hand. But the growing backlog holds no fears for Marginson, whose first team had a friendly workout against Trafford last night.

"We are buzzing and as long as the postponements don't get ridiculous I am happy. That's why we have a big squad," said Marginson. "A cup run is important."

Like Karl said we have a big squad with reserves as good as some first teams who can help with fixture pile up. We have never really had a good cup run and I wouldn't mind making a semi or final. As for the league, even after a run of bad results and postponed matches we are still in poll position to win, it so any talk of fear is nonsense. When all games in hand are played, the only team that look like catching us is Curzon Ashton who are flying in all competitions including the FA Vase. With three promotion places available this year the only other question left to answer is who will be third place. FC United and Curzon Ashton are going up.

If the fixtures do pile up then i'm sure that a good cup run will keep the squad buzzing and more of the players will get a game. I agree with you Free Red that Curzon Ashton are our biggest threat to stop us winning two successsive titles, should be a cracking game when we get to play them next.

it seems easy to right of salford ,but havent we already beat yous this season ,all this its between us and curzon ,well lets wait and see hey ,fixture pile ups can cause havoc ,and we may be in a false position at the moment dont count us out , COME ON THE AMMIES

I think FC now have six games in hand, not five. What are Salford going to do for the rest of the season? Take a long winter break? It'll be nice to see FC actually playing again, and I hope both Uniteds can progress in the Cup this weekend.

Why not just play all the matches to be made up on one night. Back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back
and have all the pub team opponents and we can all have a big group sing-song afterwards at the pub.

to salford red. i think u are delibrately forgetting that fc have also beaten you this season and also salford lost to glossop at the weekend - a team who fc beat 8-0! wot does that tell u??

FC have a deep enough squad of players to cope with any possible fixture congestion. Having said that, they only have two weekday games scheduled so far for the rest of the year, and only two games to reschedule. Even if they get to the Challange Cup final there wil be many midweek dates free to schedule any future rearranged games.

Colne 0-4 FC United and we are through to the quarter-final of the NWC League cup. We have been drawn away to Silsden. The other ties are Congleton v. Padiham, Oldham Town v. Flixton and Salford v. Curzon Ashton. All to be played 17th February 2007. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

United against Judas, Salford.
Many people have been outpriced from Old Trafford, are they supposed to give up going to football matches?
Do they deserve to be called Judas becuse they have found an affordable alternative?
For some others the price is not personally a problem to them but they choose FC because they care pasionately about the way fooball is going and they way fans are treated and know of others who can`t afford it and want to do something about it. Whether that is right or wrong in your eyes do they deserve to be called Judas for doing what they think is right?
It`s very easy to dismiss people under a general heading of an insulting name but you don`t know each individuals personal circumstances or their view of what casued them to make the decision.

I have been to most of the games since Aug 05 and see that the majority of fans are in family groups..Absolutely hoolie free.

You sound like you are new to United and I suggest you check the website to see what weare doing to bring football back to the community.

May just be speaking for myself or for other fc united fans as well when I say that despite the flak we have taken, I really couldn't give a monkey's what O.T. regulars regard us as. I could afford to go still (just) but chose not to due to how sterile and passionless the place was. FC United is more fun, think people are just jealous because they are not enjoying themselves too.

You would have thought the Blue bit of Manchester had enough troubles without coming onto a Red site with their side splitting foot in mouth rants.

For the record Blues, it was 4 -0 for the Reds at Spurs and 2 -1 for the Reds at Bacup.
