Nugent sets sights on a United double

ROB Nugent is aiming for a big Red double on Saturday - by cheering Manchester United to derby victory and then putting on his boots to keep FC United on course for FA Vase glory.

The 23-year-old defender describes the day as one of the biggest of his football life, but will be forced to miss most of the second half of the lunchtime Old Trafford clash with the Blues in order to prepare for the visit of Quorn to Gigg Lane.

"I will be getting to Gigg Lane earlier than usual to watch the derby in the social club," said the FC central defender, who signed up to join the rebel club on the day of its inception.

"But I will have to tear myself away for the manager's pre-match team talk, so will miss most of the second half. I just hope United can beat City and then we can make our fans doubly happy by seeing off Quorn."

Protests

Nugent is a dyed-in-the-wool Red, who joined the protests against Malcolm Glazer's takeover and, as a former Sheffield United reserve team captain, was a natural to play for the club born out of that protest.

"I have been a United fan since I was a little lad, but have become disillusioned with the way the club, and Premiership football in general, is going," said Nugent, now a trainee accountant with Trafford Borough Council.

"It all came to a head with Glazer and his debt, but there are a lot of different issues such as unaffordable prices, not being able to take kids, and the atmosphere."

Now Nugent is revving up for what he believes is the biggest game in the new club's history.

"In the last round, people were saying the Salford City game was the biggest, so this one has to be bigger," he added.

A win would put FC into the national phase of the competition.

Nothing like cheering on your local accountant instead of watching the derby!!! My prediction with this being derby week-end?? Under 1500 so called fans. That game last night v. Benfica was tremendous. The attacking style Man United displayed made me believe this could be a year that they take it the distance. Debt, smebt, Let's go Reds!!

Well that's messed my plans up. I was going in Bury Social to watch the derby, but I think in it will be heaving. Ah well, there's plenty of others venues in Bury with a TV. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

More good news. Don't panic! Late arrivals. Anyone planning to watch the Manchester derby before heading on to FC United's FA Vase clash with Quorn will be able to gain access to the ground until 3.45pm through a late turnstile that will be open on the day.

I posted a response to you JJ proving your comments regarding SAF to be untrue. However it appears that the FC Editor doesn't like anyone to know the truth. Perhaps they can set up a Pinnochio site for you. Of course you wont be watching the derby because you gave already said you have no interest in the club.

Maybe the editor posted my comments but not yours malcolm because mine were true and yours werent! I can assure you I have not watched a single MU game since last year and icancelled my Sky subscription because of the Glazers. In any case I am taking my kids ice-skating this saturday in London.
Wonder why there is no ice skating rink at OT this winter? Surely not because last year some enterprisign souls graffitied on it what we all think of the Glazers!!!

Free Read - I've got a joke for ---- oh I mean ON you. What group of Football supporters have been duped by a group of conspiracy theorists that to protest giving money to Premier League clubs that you need to give your money to them? They can copy the songs and the colors, but the players, while certainly better than their NW Counties league counterparts, are not worth the 7 quid to get in. I understand your communal desire, most weak individuals seek communal support because of their individual weakness. But if you look at it with a grain of reasonableness, the club really is not any different than it was in 1999. One of the top clubs in wealth, support and victories in 1999 and one of the top clubs in wealth, support and victories in 2006. You used to dine on Filet Mignon w/ SAF and now you are chowing on Taco Bell with Andy Walsh. Sad sad sad. Too be that bitter and sad. Give me a packet of hot sauce Andy!!

JJ and Free Red. Yes, you're right about the phantom multi-posters. Chumpshire is indeed none other than Malcolm, who in turn, is none other that Raymond Jones (remember him?) who is none other than a veritable myriad of other phoney identities. This, remember, from the man who once memorably intoned: I only post as myself. However, I think Tommy is a different kettle of fish. I actually DO think he is a Yank, who, lip a-trembling, cannot stand the idea of all those nasty FC supporters REJECTING his fellow countrymen. I may be wrong, but no matter. Neither of them has at any time been able to explain how exactly the Glazers are good for MUFC.
