Marginson blasts Rebels

FC UNITED manager Karl Marginson blasted his players after they stumbled to a 1-1 draw with Congleton Town, and go into next week's vital FA Vase third round tie in their worst form.

After suffering a 3-0 home defeat by Atherton Collieries, the Rebels had to come from behind to snatch a point in a game switched to Witton Albion's ground, the first time they have gone two games without a win.

"Too many of them are getting a bit cocksure of themselves," blazed Marginson, after Josh Howard had scrambled in a 66th minute equaliser to a first half goal from the Bears' Scott Murcott.

"It's all very well signing autographs and hearing your name sung, but if they carry on playing like that some of them won't be at this club for very long."

The result could have been worse, with Scott Williams hitting a post and Jordan Johnson's cross being deflected on to the bar keeper Sam Ashton.

But FC missed a penalty, Rory Patterson seeing his spot kick saved by Paul Forester after sub Phil Power had gone down in the box.

Now FC's thoughts turn to the visit of Quorn to Gigg Lane in the Vase on Saturday, and top scorer Stuart Rudd is set to return after missing the Congleton game with a deadleg.

But places are up for grabs warned Marginson, adding: "I think some players feel they are established first-team players now, but I told them that they have to play every game as if it is their last, because one day it will be."

Things arent looking to great at the moment. we have to get a win on saturday otherwise its time too start looking at who really deserves their place in the team. With the players we've got at this level there should be no reason to go for three games without a win.

"Stuart Rudd is set to return" That sounds like six words of poetry to my ears. I heard he was going to be out for six weeks. Our players can do better so Karl was right to give them a reminder of who they are playing for. I know Quorn have been resting there best players for the FA Vase match against us to try and gain an edge. Make no mistake, Quorn are not coming to Gigg lane to make friends. I also know that we can beat them provided our players get focused. Karl is a no nonsense type and I think some of our players will be playing to keep their shirts next Saturday. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

Another well below average performance, hot on the heels of the Atherton game. Congleton deserved more than the draw from this fixture, they were the better side and should have won despite going down to 10 men for the last half hour. The FC players and staff must ask some harsh questions of themselves this week in training. Getting a corner past the first defender would be a good start. Finding another red shirt with a 10 yard pass would be another. Get a grip lads, Quorn will punish the schoolboy mistakes you made on Sunday.

There there Free Red There there. The number of players sent off against FC is a bit strange don't you think. No bias I am sure but once is unfortunate etc. Torpey as usual fair and well balanced comments. Unfortunately Free Red gets his hyperbole in first and IS well off mark.

Teams who dominate possession and attack for most of a game inevitably get more penalties awarded to them and have more players sent off playing against them. That's a fact of football. It's not a relevent one in this case though, as Congleton did most of the attacking and thanks to a serious gale there was very little posession by either side. It was a no brainer for the ref, the Congleton player threw a punch simple as that. What was more interesting was that the ref ordered our player off the pitch to have his bloody nose seen to and then let the game carry on without him on the pitch so we gained no advantage for the first 5 or 6 minutes as we too were reduced to 10 men. I'm no ref so I don't know what the rules are in such a case but it hardly seems fair now does it? You get punished for allowing your nose to get in the way of a flailing fist?

T.G. It doesn't seem fair but we can't blame the Ref. If you are bleeding then you have to leave the field of play. AIDs and all that. Karl could have made a substitution, but that would have reduced his options for freshening up the side later in the match. So Karl chose to wait until our lad was patched up and play had broke down. It was probably the right tactical decision even though it didn't have any effect on the result.

If a player with a bloody nose is unable to play, why WOULDN'T the manager sub someone in for him?? Sounds like Mr. Pear and Broccoli and a Cherry tomato for a brain.

I thought FC were dominant in the second half, had some good chances and could have won it - not to mention the penalty! It's great to hear that Rudd is back. But we also need to thank Power for his contribution - he made a big difference with his strength and passing. Even if there is Only One RonaldoI! Good luck to Big United on Wednesday, but Stuff the Glazers. And I tip FC to bounce back on Saturday.

Yes, coming off for a bloody nose is not about pain, it is a FIFA safety measure to prevent possible infection of other players. Once bandaged, a player can carry on.

The real point is, should the ref stop the game to deal with it as techinically it's a head injury or as he actually did, let the game carry on?

T.G. It does seem unfair but all injuries are treated the same irrespective of how it was caused. The player can substitute but either way once the injured player has left the field then there is nothing else to stop the match continuing. Perhaps there should be another rule introduced based on how injuries are caused.

Salford red, i agree, not to worried myself. We've had blips before and responded sooner rather than later. Like you say we're top with the opposition pushing us, which is a good thing. Still in both cups and hopefully we'll make one step further with a win this Saturday to progress in the F.A. Vase.

Salford Red. It's one draw and two defeats but you are right about the rest. I prefer a close league race anyway and I'm as much up for this FA Vase as I ever was a FA Cup. Good result Salford City got against Atherton C on Sat. The first and second spot in the table look about right for the rest of the season now.

I know why Margy didn't sub Spencer off after he'd been assaulted by the Congleton player ........ nothing too complex either. Gary Sampson was subbed off early in first half with Platt coming on, Danny Allen was replaced by Phil Power 10 minutes into the 2nd half meaning that when Spencer came on for Dave Brown with 20 minutes to go there were no more subs left on the bench. Doh!

You would think that FC have lost 5 in a row from some of the comments. FC are now half way through the league progamme. They have won 18 out of their league 21 games so far. With their recent draw they have ammaseed an amazing 55 points out of a possibe 63. Put another way Man United will have to win their next 5 games in a row to have the same points as FC from 21 games. I do not hear anybody saying that Man United are in a crisis!

There is no doubt that FC will be crowned Champions agisn this season.

John Red Side. FC fans obviously have different views. Some still go to OT, some don't. However, I think you'll find that they still love Man United. It's our history, our club. Just because Glazer was allowed to borrow loads of money to be able to pretend that he owns it, doesn't alter that. The fans made Man United and should fight to take it back. One way you can do that is to show your support for FC United and a diffrent way of running a football club. But that doesn't mean you have to stop supporting Man U. I know I haven't. I was there in 1968 when they beat Benfica. I cheered them on that night, and I'll cheer them on on Wednesday. Two Uniteds But the Soul is One!

You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to notice the coseying up of FC's "greatest" to United now that there is the scent of some more glory. Of course the we hate Glazer nonsense is still in there for good measure but strangely now FC fans are saying where would extra reds be seated at Old Trafford. More inconsistencies from the lemmings. Now if United were struggling and already out of Europe what do you think they would be saying. Told you so. Glazers fault etc etc etc. Candy floss for brains all of them. Who would want them as fans. No wonder SAF thinks they are a joke club.
