SALFORD wrecked FC United's record winning streak with two late goals in front of 4,058 fans at the Willows last night.
Super sub Jamie Bagguley crashed in a 30-yard free kick to draw the Tangerines level and in injury time Nick Robinson scored a deserved second to prevent the Rebels from clocking up a 13th straight win.
FC had taken the lead through Josh Howard with ten minutes to go, when keeper Sam Ashton picked him out from 60 yards with a great free kick and the former Manchester United youth team captain smashed a volley across Salford keeper Andy Moores.
But the Salford team rose to a great non-league occasion, and so did Salford folk. They turned out in their droves to support their local team, some curious, some with a sense of civic duty, as well as a smattering of confused rugby league types.
The city's Mayor was there, and British light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore was spotted wandering to the stadium, dressed in a pair of flowery red and white beach shorts!
Delayed
The crowds built up outside, with kick-off twice delayed. By the time they had made their way through the foul weather, there was the kind of attendance which the Willows normally gets for a Super League game.
Salford were clearly fired up for the match, hammering into tackles and disrupting FC's usual passing game.
They also created more first half chances, Matty Eckersley firing just wide and Dale Whitehead hitting the bar from 25 yards.
But it was the visitors who had the best chance of the half, Matty Taylor swinging in a cross from deep on the right. Top scorer Stuart Rudd stretched out a toe but Salford keeper Moores made a terrific reflex save to keep it out.
The second half was tight and competitive, the Salford support loving it when sub Tunji Moses - son of former Manchester United midfielder Remi - was booked for a two-footed assault on Will Ahern.
But when Salford snatched it late on, there were few arguments that they were worth the victory.

It's no surprise this club are 'achieving' so much when the entire local media seem to be backing them to the hilt, to the extent of ignoring problems with supporters.

They are not the spirit of Manchester United - they remind me so much of Nottinghamshire Miners in the 80s. Self righteous, delluded and a insult to all true MUFC fans the world over.
Hearing about the trouble they cause at non-league grounds is of no surprise. They probably see that Old Trafford is trouble free these days and just wish to fight elsewhere.
Good riddence I say, and please stop pretending to be connected to MUFC - the Babes will be turning in their graves!!

Fc are a great affordable club that I am happy taking my young sons to watch. Salford played well last night and deserved all three points - the idiots in one section of there support deserve pity for being so ignorant of FC's true aims

FC United fans left Old Trafford because they couldn't take the selling of their club and wanted to make a stand.
So much for the fight from within.
We're not going to rise to your goading. Reds don't fight reds.
For those at you not at the game, there wasn't any trouble inside the ground that I saw.
However, there were two offensive and provocative flags displayed by non FC fans and several incidents of goading towards FC fans.
We're a family club, Sammo. Get your facts right. Perhaps if you'd like to come to a match you'd learn that.

Pity the night was marred by United fans, having a go at women and kids

I'm always disappointed by the tiny crowds of 50 for a 'city club', so was initially delighted to discover that Salford would have around 1000 fans for last nights match. Unfortunately, many of those newbies went because they were hoping for a bit of a scrap.
I can't wait for my next Salford match at Moor Lane when the idiots have long forgotten about the existence of Salford City and, hopefully, some of the descent newbies will be going to.

Yes the Babes would have been turning in their graves last night having to United fans shouting for Glazer and chants of USA from them, threatening kids because they watch FC as well as going to games at OT.

If he was actually there last night and reprted honestly, he'd know that no trouble was caused by FC fans, nor did they react to great provocation.

You eithre support MUFC, remain loyal to your club or your up there with Judas.
FC United are now in the same boat as CITY or Liverpool, rival clubs, except City or Liverpool dont try and pinch MUFC's support.

There WAS a different atmosphere last night mostly down to a few wind up merchants and - shamefully - a few United.
No-one who was at the Methodist hall or the Apollo in July 2005 could ever underestimate the weight of emotion with which some us decided to make the move (to a club that did not exist, merely represented SOMETHING right about the game). Every single one of us loves United.
There IS a downside to FC and that is that we may one day eat into support for other teams in an overcrowded north west. We are however just a division 9 side for a small percentage of disenfranchised fans who WOULDN'T be going to United anyway. Someone is comparing this to the miner's strike - get a grip - people still get murdered over things that happened then. FC is nothing of the sort.
