JUBILANT FC United manager Karl Marginson awarded his rebel Reds top marks after they made it 10 wins out of 10 in the North West Counties League first division with a 4-2 romp over Silsden in front of another bumper Gigg Lane crowd of 3,381.

Rory Patterson struck twice in quick succession early in the second-half to ensure FC United's winning start stretched into double figures after he'd earlier earned the penalty from which Stuart Rudd fired them in front.

Achievement

Simon Carden, back from a calf injury, was also on target.

Marginson said: "It was perhaps slightly disappointing for us to have conceded twice but how can you fault a team which has started the season with 10 successive wins? It's a great achievement by anyone's standards."

The win keeps FC United six points clear of second-placed Maine Road who won 3-2 at Stone Dominoes.

The rebels have the chance to increase their lead when they take on fifth-placed neighbours Curzon Ashton at Tameside Stadium tonight (7.45pm).

I thought I would go and take a look at what FC were all about on Saturday. I was expecting Champions League football but this was pretty dire stuff. Marginson talks about letting two in but it can't be hard beating a side with a stand in keeper who seemed to do his best to avoid the ball (particularly the penalty). I've heard a lot about so called happy clappers at Old Trafford but there seemed to be a fair few at Gigg Lane too. Time for a reality check FC.

Rory Pattersons second goal has to be worth more of a mention. After Simpson scored Silsdens first in the 63rd minute, Patterson scored his second straight from the restart when he spotted their keeper off his line and took a shot on goal from the half way line. I dont know what the record is for a reply, but his goal was also scored within the 63rd minute. I thought it was a great bit of opportunism which took everyone by surprise so well done Rory. 10 out of 10 for initiative. I also think that Silsden can also take credit for scoring twice when down to 10 men. CURZON-ASHTON FC v. FC UNITED. Tonights away match is pay on the gate for those without tickets ¿¿6 Adults ¿¿3 Concessions - DIRECTIONS. From the M60 exit Jct 23 for Ashton-u-Lyne. Take the second lane from the left as you come to the cross Jct with the A635. Go straight at the lights until you come to a second set of lights and turn right onto Lord Sheldon Way. Drive down this bypass passing through a third set of lights until you come to a roundabout with a multi screen cinema complex opposite (you can park here for free and the ground is only a 10 minute walk). Take your first exit road up the incline until you reach a set of lights. Turn left at the lights onto Richmond Street. Drive for about 150 yards until you reach a mini roundabout go through the roundabout an immediately turn left again into the Tameside Stadium entrance. There is parking here but there is a bottle neck as this is the only entrance. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

A great afternoons entertainment including one of the best goals I have ever seen at any level of football. Fantastic atmosphere again, plenty of banter and terrace humour and the volume of niose has to be witnessed to be believed.

I thought we were alittle sloppy and complacent on Saturday. Against 10 men we should have converted a few more of the chances we made and should never have conceded both those goals. Still 10 out of 10 is hard to fault. I am really looking forward to the Maine Road game in Novemeber at Stalybridge. Should be a cracker.
