Rebels hit Nelson for six

RED-HOT FC United hit Nelson for six at a soggy Gigg Lane to establish themselves as the early pacesetters in the North West Counties League first division.

The Rebel Reds never looked back after being gifted a 10th-minute lead when Alex Mortimerés corner glanced in off the head of a visiting defender.

It was plain sailing for Karl Marginsonés men after that, with star striker Rory Patterson helping himself to a hat-trick - scoring once in the first-half and twice after the interval before Stuart Rudd and Steve Smith completed a 6-0 demolition job.

The rout made for great entertainment for a crowd of 2,129 and means FC United have taken maximum points from their opening two games.

An emphatic win last night at a rain soaked Gigg lane in a match where Nelson were washed up by half time. I think its fair to say we have firmly placed our marker in this league. We are now second on GD to Trafford who last night demolished the Stone Dominoes with an 0-8! away win. Roll on Saturday when we take on Nantwich at home. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

First time I've seen new look FC this season and was well impressed. Nelson huffed and puffed for the game, but had no idea once they got out of their half. Our work rate was 100% and its clear some of our new acquisitions are too good for this league. Attendance was a bit poor, but suppose plenty still on hols and the cats and dogs didnt help.

Bring on Nantwich, they should an excellent test of our progress.

Oh ED where are the usually hilarious comments from our Blue guests...have you re-directed them to the entertainment section or have even Blues finally understood what we stand for!!!!

Top night last night, great goals, great singing. Some of the new lads look very handy indeed. Did anyone else notice that according to the programme, we only play Stone Doms once, surely a mistake.

Rudd looks quality. Full backs look solid.... all looks good! Nantwich will be a proper test but (fingers crossed) we should have 'em!

Phil. The information I have is that we play them at home on the 25 November and away on 24 March (subject to ground change).

I think what FC needs is CHEERLEADERS!!! Good looking young women in short skirts dancing and leading cheers would certainly get the attendance above the 2,000ish numbers.

Dabbers tanned and leathered...well not quite, Nantwich were a solid outfit and gave United one of their toughest test yet and am sure on that showing will beat many other teams. Our never say die attitude and extra flair gave us the edge.

Went to O/T on Sunday and for once enjoyed it and with all the others good results (even Chelsea) it made for a cracking weekend.

Glossop here we come!!
