Street star boosts FC

NON LEAGUE Coronation Street actor Sam Robertson starred in FC United's 2-1 win over Abbey Hey at Bower Fold last night. The Rebel Reds put out a second string 11, but still proved too strong for their fellow North West Counties Division One side.

Robertson, aka Adam Baldwin, played some neat passes and was involved in FC's opening goal. Tricky winger Warren Collier finished a neat move with a great chip on 20 minutes. The little number seven impressed throughout but it was experienced forward Leon Mike who won the game for the Rebels with a tremendous shot from 25 yards on the hour.

Josh Cathcart grabbed a late consolation for Abbey Hey.

Sam Robertson brings a bit of show biz glitter to FC and his work rate is good. Leon Mike and Barrie George were the familiar faces from the first team. But the lesser known fringe players we have coming through are quality. I have no doubt our reserves or the select XI that played last night could hold their own in the league. Collier goal was top draw. Coming in from the right with a defender closing in he kept his bottle, took his time and from the point of striking the ball there was nothing the last defender or keeper could have done about it. If he keeps playing like that Karls going to have a nice problem choosing a first 11 when the season starts on Saturday. Bring on St Helens, come on FC.

(St Helens RLFC). Telephone: 01744 23697. k.o. 3.00pm. DIRECTIONS. From the M60 Jct 12 take the M62 west for Liverpool, exit at junction 7. Take 5th exit on roundabout onto St Helens Linkway, exit Linkway at 3rd roundabout (Sherdley) taking 2nd exit towards Town Centre to next roundabout, take exit following signs for Liverpool and Southport, through traffic lights to next roundabout, take 1st exit off roundabout towards Liverpool. At traffic lights turn right onto Eccleston Street, follow road for approx 1 mile, at Black Bull Public House, turn left over bridge, car park and ground on right. (Note: Follow signs for St Helens RLFC). Viva la revolution, come on FC.

What are you doing on the FC comments page gloating about how many season tickets have been sold for Old Trafford.
Each to their own.
Why such annnimosity towards a non league club run by football fans for the benefit of football fans and the local community.
FC fans are not anti United, just anti exploitation of football fans so what is your problem with FC?
I suggest you try a game at Gigg Lane with an open mind, the football is probably a lot better that you would expect and you will find an atmosphere that you very rarely get in the corporate world of the premier league these days

64,000 season tickets, that remains to be seen. Its not like we haven't heard spin coming out of OT since the Glazers arrival, is it ! The reds who will be watching FC Utd can't wait for the season to begin, really buzzing about it, where as the reds going to OT, there seems to be a touch of doom and gloom in the air. I said nothing of the kind Neil. Are you sure you have got the right Free Red? What I said was that fans who were struggling to keep up with the constant price increases, would like the more casual fans, choose to watch the more high profile matches thus leaving empty seats for the less fashionable matches. I think by the time you read this that will have been proven to be the case. As for being bitter, I couldnt care less. If you want to go OT then go. Its as simple as that. You do want you want to do and I will do the same. Anyway, I hope you get to see a win tomorrow as I did today. St Helens 0-2 FC United.

being a staunch bolton fan for 35 years and having seen football in every division i can only but admire the supporters of fc united the idiots who now watch the beautiful game are not true supporters but designer clones who want to be seen around the overpaid underworked sycophantic world that is the premier league,fc united have breathed a new life into non league football, and with there growing success every club will benefit,just ask bury, i hope the coming season will be every bit as successful as the firs,what a great feeling it is to spend hard earned money on a team you know are in it for the honour and glory instead of the prawn sarnies, all the best and bolton for the cup

Bit harsh calling Coronation Street non league but pub league as a descriptor for FC is about right. Who is this United the FC fans are so keen to face? Ramsbottom?
