After going three pre-season games without a goal, all against opponents three or four divisions higher, the new team won convincingly against a team from the same level of the non-league pyramid in front of more than 2,000 fans.
The impressive Torpey lashed in a left-footer from 25 yards after 10 minutes, then quickly added another from the penalty spot, but Flixton's Leon Grandison pulled one back before half-time.
United midfielder Steve Spencer headed in a third after the break, and former City youth player Adie Orr made it four.
Chris Denham pulled one back for Flixton, before sub Greg Randles bagged the fifth from close range.

Having never been before, and not really that bothered about it being honest, I took the decision to go late yesterday, and I could not believe my eyes.
The standard of football was alot higher than I thought it would be, and the crowd....
I really pity the people living in houses around the ground because the noise coming from the hundreds of FC United supporters was unlike anything I have heard for a long time.
If thats what this club is all about then all I can say is you have one more fan. I shall definitely be going again, and again and again......
Anyone who loves football as it should be played will love this.
