Ex-Bury boss Andy Preece has resigned as manager of non-League Northwich Victoria – just days after steering them through to the last 16 of the FA Trophy, writes Tony Glennon.

Preece, who also guided Vics to a famous FA Cup victory over League One Charlton two years ago, has left to become director of football at Welsh Premier League outfit Airbus UK.

His shock departure comes with Vics lying second in the Evo-Stik League’s premier division and chasing four trophies.

Northwich chairman Jim Rushe said: “The timing of Andy going is bad, there’s no doubt about it, but he’s ambitious and Airbus have offered him a long-term contract, which we couldn’t.” Tweet
