A woeful first half display from FC saw them fail to create a single chance against a young Durham side who have lost every league game this season, conceding more than 100 goals in the process.
However, the Rebels upped the ante after the interval and were immediately rewarded when Joe Yoffe broke the deadlock five minutes in to the second period.
The visitors’ play improved after taking the lead, but they had to wait until the 76th minute to seal the win through a superb 25-yard effort from Phil Marsh.
Durham grabbed a late consolation goal from a free kick, but FC held on for their first win in six games.
Karl Marginson’s side are back in action at home to Ashton on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Despite FC being in 15th place, Ashton are one of the clubs FC has in their sights. They are currently in 6th position, one place off a play off position but only 9 points ahead of the reds who have 4 games in hand, so 3 points will be a must for FC in their chase for a play off spot.
FC has enjoyed mixed fortunes in the past with their opponents from Hurst Cross. The first game played between the two clubs was a friendly back in 2007 with the reds coming out 4-1 winners. The competitive games between the two sides began last season, with Ashton running out winners 2-1 in Tameside, thanks to goals from current FC striker Ben Deegan and ex MUFC youth player Callum Flanagan, Tommy Turner scoring a consolation for FC United. The reverse at Gigg Lane saw FC run out comfortable 4-0 winners thanks to a superb performance and hat-trick from Carlos Roca.
Earlier this season FC knocked Ashton out of the FA Trophy at Hurst Cross, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Marsh, and long range thunderbolt from Adam Tong and Moses.
Margy said on the Ashton game "It is important that we get back to winning ways at home and there is no better chance that against Ashton and with a bit of luck we will be looking to kick on now. We have got 20 games left and we need to start picking up plenty of victories" The game is sure to have all the spice of a local derby and it will be a special night for FC striker Ben Deegan who will be up against his old team mates.
Early team news looks like Carlos Roca may well be out with a hamstring injury but with Kyle Wilson becoming sharper by the game and looking to get on the score sheet for the first time since returning to FC, the home side will be looking for a few goals to lift them up the table. So what more do you need from a Wednesday night? Affordable football, a team looking to press on to the play offs and the famous FC Gigg Lane atmosphere.
You would be mad to miss it.
Spotlight on... Kyle Wilson
Kyle started his career rising through the youth ranks at Crewe Alexandra. In October 2005, he was sent on loan to Altrincham, where he played five games for the club.
Having never making an appearance for Crewe, he was released from his contract at the end of the 2005-06 season and he signed for Barrow A.F.C. who were managed at the time by his father, Phil Wilson. Wilson suffered an anterior mediate cruciate ligament injury in September 2006, forcing him to miss the rest of the season. He left the club following the dismissal of his father as manager in November 2007.
He made one appearance for Conference outfit Droylsden, in a 2-1 defeat to Crawley Town and also had brief spells at Witton Albion, Fleetwood Town and Skelmersdale United with whom he made a second half substitute appearance against FC in the promotion play off final at Gigg Lane before signing for F.C. United with whom he spent the 2008-09 season. During that time he scored 24 goals in 32 games before injury hit and he missed the rest of the season from around January. This superb scoring run attracted many scouts to games and it came as no surprise when he returned to the Football League in May 2009, signing with Macclesfield Town.
He made his debut in the 4-0 defeat by Notts County at Moss Rose on 15 August 2009 where he was a late substitute for Matthew Tipton. He struggled to gain a regular place in the first team at Macc and so returned to FC in January 2010 on an initial months loan.
Welcome back Kyle!!
The Weather strikes again!
Just as everyone thought the cold freezing temperatures had gone, the icy weather returned to hit the Unibond league programme on Sat 30th Jan. The only games were to survive were at Kendal, Durham and Bradford. Up in the lakes, Kendal had a great win at high flying Boston whilst Bradford climbed to the top of the table with a 2-0 win at home to Marine. FC of course beat Durham 2-1 at a perishing Esh Group Stadium. LAST TIME OUT... FC United laboured to an important 2-1 victory over basement club Durham City on Saturday afternoon with second half strikes from Joe Yoffe and Phil Marsh.
The Reds were always in control of the match but a resolute Durham side held out until the 50th minute when Yoffe flicked home a Marsh cross. Rob Nugent had a header disallowed for off-side before Marsh doubled the lead with 13 minutes to go.
The hosts struck an injury time consolation goal when Carl Heiniger curled in a stunning free-kick off the underside of the bar but United held on and will be glad to finally get a win under their belts.
