Whitby 2 FC United 2

FC United twice came from behind to rescue a point in a hard-fought draw at Whitby.

The Rebels controlled the opening exchanges but fell behind against the run of play in the 36th minute, when ex-Middlesbrough striker Andrew Campbell sprang the offside trap and fired past Sam Ashton to give the home side the lead.

Whitby defender Andrew Leeson gifted FC an equaliser just minutes later as he put through his own goal after a trademark Adam Tong long-throw had caused havoc in the Seasiders’ penalty area.

However, Whitby restored their lead just before the interval as midfielder Tony Hackworth made it 2-1 to the home side at half time.

Joe Yoffe pulled the visitors level again shortly after the restart, and FC had to settle for a point after the striker spurned a glorious opportunity to grab a late winner after an evenly-matched second half.

What do you think? Have your say.

Pretty happy getting a point out of this game to be honest. Considering they stuffed Matlock 4-0 away last week i'll take a point....still think we are in need of a decent forward though.

Does this result mean you are still pretty much at the bottom?

A point is always a good result for struggling teams!

I see the muppet show is on again. Two of the Three Stooges on here. Funny they never come on when we win. Strange that. That was a really good game on Saturday in my view. Both sides gave it a real go and played some decent stuff at times. Couldn't really argue with a draw on the overall balance of play. Whitby showed themselves to be a much more enterprising side than they looked at Gigg not so long ago. Yes, it would be nice to get a prolific scorer, but then everyone from Fergie downwards is looking for one of those !

7/12/2009 at 15:32 - fair play to you, you are correct, you dont hear much from vegas and I when you win, granted. However, you may not have noticed that you have won extreamely infrequently this season, hence vegas and I leaving comments pretty much every week - touche?
By the way, as I asked earlier, are you still at the bottom?. the reason I am asking is when I go onto teletext to check your league position, it only shows the top half of the table and you havent made an guest appearances in that direction for a very very long time.

PREVIEW OF TONIGHTS MATCH. FC United make the trip up to Cumbria on Tuesday night to take on Kendal in the third round of the UniBond League Challenge Cup.

The Reds expect to be without Jerome Wright until the end of the month or possibly the New Year as he has undergone a hernia operation. Ludovic Quistin filled in for Wright, who was also serving a one match ban, on the left wing during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Whitby. The 25-year-old Guadeloupe international will be relishing the chance to show what he can do in his preferred position after starting his FC United career with six solid appearances as a full-back.

Manager Karl Margisnon may opt to mix things up a little during Wright’s absence though. He said: "We looked at a 4-3-3 formation at Hucknall a few weeks ago and that might be on the cards whilst Jerome is out." Danny Warrender is now back to full fitness and came through Saturday’s 90 minutes unscathed. He did however pick up his fifth yellow card of the season which means he will miss United's trip to Guiseley a week on Sunday.

Margy may decide to give some of the fringe players a game at the Lakeland Radio Stadium. The match also provides the opportunity to get Rob Nugent some playing time under his belt; United’s longest serving player is still recovering from a leg injured sustained at Lancaster on Halloween. There may also be a cameo role for club captain David Chadwick who has been struggling with a hip injury which has kept him out of action for the last six matches. Marginson added: "Chaddy is a little bit off full fitness yet so we’ll continue to monitor him."

It'll be a good test for us on Saturday against Retford. They are top at the moment but we got a point at their place back in August so it'll be interesting to see what happens this time around. I seem to remember playing Ilkeston last season at roughly the same time who were also top and we won 3-0. There's not a big gap in terms of quality in any of the teams in this league...it's nothing like the Premier League where there's 3 leagues in 1!! It's totally different at this level, the players have daytime jobs and you don't get the consistency you would see in full time proffessionals. Unless you watch non-league regularly you wouldn't understand.

Ah well...it was good while it lasted, charging up the pub leagues,eh?Not quite as exciting when you're not thrashing everyone in sight is it?Hard work, getting the rip taken and all that. And utd fans of any type just don't do the hard work and rip taking very well,do they?
Still-there seem to be a few more empty seats than usual at the swamp these days.
Maybe you could all get a job lot of "half season" cards on the cheap for Christmas?

I'm sure fergie and Malc would be understanding like that.

Now we have archived a respectable 2-1 exit from a cup comp we could well do without we can concentrate on the league and clearing up our the six games in hand backlog.

Ha ha you lot can't help wandering over here can you! If you live to be 100 you'll never experience the highs i've had watching football. "Charging up the pub leagues" or not as you intelligently put it(!), what FCUM represents is far more important. Not for sale. At any price. You wouldn't understand.

Free Read: A game in hand does not count any points if you do not win or draw. Just checking to make sure you understand that small point. The MEN really should hire me to write my own ANTI-club page. I could point out the poor and terrible features of every club.

Winning smooths over all the rough bumps, but now that FC is losing we see how pathetically small the FC Supporter Lot really is. FC really should offer a refund on tickets and concessions for each home loss. It has been awhile since the last "freebie" night, maybe we can have one of those or import some of our large Korean supporter base in for a home match.

FC United may be going through a lean patch but thigs could be a lot worse. Take the glazers egg chasing Tampa Bay Buccaneers who Dash Walney (pathetic anagram of Andy Walsh) aka Tommy Tampa is now ashamed to admit he supports (lol). They have given up more than 30 points in games played this season. That's more times then many teams give up the entire season. Their offense this season is abysmal scoring barely 13 points per game. I can't pretend to understand the rules of this rather strange game in which men wear tights and crash helmets but not surprisingly they are now officially the worst team in egg chasing team in NFC south history. To any egotistical glazer lovin' bucs fan that's really got to hurt (lol)

We've played only 5 league games since October 7th...won 2 drawn 1 and lost 2. Hmmm obviously a crisis! Nearly everyone else in this league has played double the amount of games in the period we've played only 5...and Dash, just for the record, our core support has hardly changed since day 1. (first ever home game had 2400+ there, last few homes on Saturday have around 2200) In fact we have more season ticket holders and members now than we've ever had! You don't know anything which is why your comments always raise a chuckle from me!

Why are there so many bertie comments fouling these pages. Support your own bunch of rent boys and leave this site alone. I have to trawl through garbage from the $hity side of manchester to be able to read any decent comments made by fellow united fans. This is a site to share opinions, not just to bitch and be bitter. FC UNITED v RETFORD - MATCH PREVIEW. FC United get back to league action this Saturday by welcoming top of the table Retford to Gigg Lane and Manager Karl Marginson is urging supporters to get behind the team. Due to runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy as well as a postponement two weeks ago, the Reds now have six games in hand over Retford and a 19 point gap to close. A daunting task maybe but it's one Margy is confident his side can pull off. He said: "We need to get a couple of wins under our belts and we'll start moving up the table. The players have got the ability to do it, now it's about believing in themselves and putting a good run together." United have no need to fear the visitors from Nottinghamshire as they picked up their first point of the season against The Badgers back in August after an evenly contested 1-1 draw at Lincoln United’s Ashby Avenue.

Retford are a team in form though with four wins out of the last five and three of those came away from home. However, Margy knows that the FC United faithful can make all the difference with their vocal backing. He said: "Our supporters are fantastic. I've said it many times before but it really is true; they are like a 12th man. "I hope as many of them as possible can get to the match on Saturday, get behind the team and help us pick up three points against tough opposition. We'll get up that league table with the fans' support." United expect to go into the game with no new injury concerns or suspensions. Rob Nugent got a vital half an hour of football under his belt at Kendal in the Challenge Cup on Tuesday night as he progresses from an injury which kept him out for most of November and captain David Chadwick's hip problem is steadily improving. Jerome Wright will be the only player definitely unavailable as he recovers from a hernia operation.

FC United of Manchester against Retford United is this Saturday at 3 O’clock. It's POTG with entrance priced £7.50 adults, £5 concessions and £2 under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.

RETFORD'S VIEW OF THE GAME - Peter Duffield warned his Retford United side they will need to get off to a good start or they could be overwhelmed by the cheers of the large crowd at FC United of Manchester on Saturday. FC United regularly get crowds of around 2,500 at their home games, which are played at Bury's Gigg Lane. Retford boss Duffield said his players should enjoy the atmosphere at the ground, which he describes as like "football in the old days", but warned that they must not give the home supporters much to cheer about in the Unibond League Premier Division match. "It's a big ground and they will have a big crowd," said Duffield "Their home games remind me of football in the old days. "They wear the old-style Manchester United kits, the crowds cheer and wave their scarves above their heads. It's a great atmosphere. "For some of our players it will be a new experience, but a lot of them will have played in front of big crowds before. "It is important that we get off to a good start. We must not let them get their tails up. "They are in the relegation zone, but you've got to look at their games in hand. They've got six games in hand on us. "I don't think they will be down there at the end of the season."
